In Chinese, 5 is pronounced "wu", so 555 is like a crying sound. In fact, the Chinese use 555 like a :'( smiley.
In Thai, 5 is pronounced "ha", so 555 is like a laughing sound - and it's used instead of "LOL".
Go figure...
